Controller
Job description:
The Controller at Southern Spear Ironworks, will be responsible for developing systems to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts and defining bookkeeping policies and procedures. We are a young and rapidly growing full service structural steel construction firm.
Maintains subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
Balances subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries.
Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries.
Balances general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries.
Maintains historical records by filing documents.
Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
We are a young and rapidly growing full service structural steel construction firm. As the Controller, a strong background in construction/cost accounting is a must. Here are our preferred qualifications:
5 years in an accounting role for a construction firm
Proven track record of implementing charts of accounts + bookkeeping procedures (with references)
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Proficiency working in enterprise level accounting software programs
